Get Over It

11 days ago, Donald Trump won the electoral college and as such is the President-Elect of the United States of America. Nearly instantly, almost anyone who didn’t vote for him was incensed, saddened, and/or frightened. And anyone who did vote for him took to social media with one message for them……”Get over it.”

7 year and 10 months ago today, Obama was sworn in as the President of the United States for the first time. For 2863 days, as he has been President, I have listened to lies and garbage from people who did not vote for him and did not want him as President, many of them the same people who voted for Trump.

You want me to “get over it” when for the better part of the last 8 years you didn’t? Or couldn’t? Or just wouldn’t?

For the last 8 years

·      You spent 5 years questioning his place of birth, acting as though there was a question when it was well established fact. You supported a sheriff (mine) and a candidate (yours) who sent teams of people to Hawaii and claimed “they cannot believe what they are finding.”  What they found was nothing.
·      You defended the First Amendment rights of people who shot at photos of Obama or lynched and burned him in effigy, but deride the Trump protestors as whiny crybabies.
·      You complained that he has no experience in governing because he was “only” a one term senator and referred to him as a “community organizer.” Then you voted for someone who has no idea what he is doing and claimed that was a good thing.
·      You claimed Obama was not a Christian at all and was actually a secret Muslim, over and over and over again. In fact, you are still claiming it while voting for a man who has stated he has never asked for forgiveness of his sins because he doesn’t need forgiveness.
·      You screamed every minute of every day that Obama was going to take your guns, my guns, all the guns. No guns have been taken.
·      You said horrible things about his wife and children and marriage, going so far as to claim Michelle Obama is a man, while voting for someone with 5 kids from 3 different wives who cheated his way out of every marriage.
·      You claimed none of it had to do with race while people simultaneously fill twitter and facebook with tweets and memes using the word n****r. Then you vote for a candidate that was endorsed by the Neo-Nazis and the KKK.
·      You have wailed and gnashed your teeth the entire time because the country is “heading in the wrong direction!” And yet-
The unemployment rate has been cut nearly in half from 9.3% to 4.9%
Violent crime has dropped 16% and homicides dropped 13%
Jobs are up by 9.3 million and long term unemployed is down by 600k
US crude production is up by 87% and petroleum imports are down by 62%
Corporate profits are up by 166%, the S&P is up 139%, the Dow 106% and the
                Nasdaq up 222%

Then you told me to not to listen to anything Trump has said, because that doesn’t matter and he doesn’t mean that, but rather wait and see what he does.

·       He named a known and admitted alt-right white supremacist as is Chief Strategist
·      He either actually didn’t know about the hate crimes committed after the election and had to be told by Lesley Stahl or he lied about not knowing because he didn’t want to deal with it. I can’t decide which is worse.
·      He has refused to put his investments in a blind trust, instead insisting his kids will run his businesses.
·      He then appointed his kids to his transition team.
·      Then he took his daughter and son-in-law into a meeting with the Japanese PM. With no security clearance. And they are supposed to be running the “blind trust.”
·      He appointed for Attorney General, a man who was deemed too racist to be a judge in the 1980’s.
·      He has chosen a VP who believes gay people should change their sexual orientation through therapy and then complains when a theatre cast containing black and gay members try to send him a message about inclusion.
·      He jumped back into twitter by telling a complete lie about the letter from the editor of the NYT’s, claiming they “apologized” when no such thing happened.
·      He tweeted that the NYT’s was losing thousands of subscribers when they have actually increased subscribers at a rate 4 times higher than normal since the election.
·      He tweeted that there were “professional protestors” who were being “very unfair!” like some petulant 6-year-old.  Professional protestors do not exist and he was just perpetuating a ridiculous conspiracy theory that he either doesn’t care is wrong (scary) or doesn’t know is wrong (more scary.)
·      He falsely took credit (again on twitter) for keeping a Ford plant in Kentucky when, according to the President of Ford, they were never going to move, close or even reduce production at that plant. They were considering moving production of one car away, but ramping up production on others, but no jobs were ever in danger there. Because the union has a contract protecting workers until at least 2019.
·      He has appointed people to his transition team who want to register all Muslims and claim the internment of Japanese people as legal precedent.

And it has only been 11 days people. 11 days.  I have listened to your shit for 2863 days and I never said “you lost, get over it” despite the number of times I thought it.

So, near as I can figure, I have 2852 days to say and do whatever I want in regard to Trump before I break even with you, let alone surpass you. So when you tell me to get over it, I have just one response for you….

NO

I will not listen as you try to shame me into doing something you would never do.
or
As you try to convince me that I need to respect the “office” if I don’t respect the man, even though you never did.
or
When you say that I need to come together for “unity” when you refused for 8 years to even consider it.
or
When you say that “his success is my success” when you have denied every Obama success even happened.

I am not going to get over it
As a matter of fact
I haven’t even gotten started yet.

And a final 'yes' to the most important thing that you said: we haven't even gotten started yet.

    3. "Just give him a chance..." they say.

He had his chance: to select decent, honorable people for his team and Cabinet. So far, each has been worse then the last.

He had a chance: to change the tone of his language and his tweets. He didn't.

He had a chance to try to bring the country together. Instead, he has broken it farther apart.

And he hasn't even been sworn in as President yet!

I was born in 1935, when things were going rotten in Gerrmany. Then, too, they said, "Just give Hitler and his Nazi Party a chance."

      No way. Never again.

    6. I will "give him a chance" and not necessarily oppose everything Trump does just because he does it, that was how the Republicans treated President Obama, but that doesn't mean I'm going to just give in and do whatever he wants. I will pay attention to every little detail of everything he does and I will strenuously object if he does something that is not in the country's best interest and I will also object even if it's in the country's best interest when it directly benefits Trump's business interests. I will dissect everything he proposes and I will argue with my last breath if it helps Trump and his rich friends and hurts everyone else.

I try to look objectively at every President regardless of party and make up my mind based on facts rather than party or hyperbole.

It's sad that President George Bush is suddenly looking better than ever.

As I read every word of your post, all I could do was wish I could thank you for stating every thought millions (and yes, it is millions who are disgusted by Trump) have had, but were limited to sharing within their immediate circle of contacts. And, in return, being told to "get over it!" YOU have touched so many by publicly sharing this post on Facebook. Thank you!

  8. Yes we're already being told to get over it and yet for eight years I've listened to people demean Obama in countless ways, portray him as an ape, say hateful things about Michelle, etcetera. Now it comes out this morning that the Trump Foundation used money for personal items. He calls Hillary crooked, yet he himself is the worst blathering idiot spreading lies across our country and being believed by so many people who were taken in by him. Unbelievable and yet it is happening.

    3. Yes, two of his "Trump Tower" projects which have been stalled since 2012 are now moving ahead - one in the Soviet Republic of Georgia and one in Buenos Aires. Also it has been reported that foreign leaders seeking to speak with Trump ha reached out through his overseas network of business partners. And he thinks the Clinton Foundation needs to be investigated for receiving contributions in exchange for favors.

Just hope I can live long enough to see something positive again. All this has left me and many of my friends feeling just like we did after 9/11, believe it or not. By the way, I am "unknown" above....and "Not MY President" prevails where I live!

    3. Please don't lose hope in the American people just yet, after all, votes are still being counted and the popular vote has gone to Hillary by over 2 million votes. But I whole heartedly agree this is no time to remain silent. If it turns out after the electoral college casts their vote that he is indeed president, he will be officially working for all of us, and we need to let him know what kind of job he is doing.

    4. IF she would win for a recount we would still face the reality that half the voting population considered DT an acceptable alternative to H Clinton. Sad and embarrassing. And there is one certainty: if a recount would put HC in office all of those "get over it" comments would evaporate instantly.

When did Hillary kill thousands of Americans(& who on here said anything about supporting her anyway?). I pray in your next life you have a better understanding of how life works and how you truly attract success, because it's clear you don't. Skypilot, Melissa, writegrantproposals, D K.... these people are so incapable of stringing together a coherent argument (and if they were, it would require a coherent viewpoint which is an even bigger hurdle). I think we're past the point where we have to try to dignify their screed with a response. It's clear they are part of the under educated and lower income group of people that supported Drumpf, which, if we can summon any empathy for them, means they will be hoisted by their own petard. This is the one consolation we have, albeit a sad one.

    13. The curses, the anger - then using the fact that you have a seven year old son to appeal to people's sympathies - nothing jibes. The reason I won't "get over this" is because Trump tied into your deepest anger, fear, and worst sense of self. You border on violence because your words aren't crushing your opponents - and everyone seems to be vilified. Everyone who listens, researches more than one sided blogs, witnesses lies and double speak coming out of Trump's mouth. Even in Scotland, he lied with promises of thousands of job and stepped all over local townspeople to build a golf course. The "resort" is a failure.

Trump is a liar - from his draft dodging for a heel bone spur so he could play college football to refusing to pay his contractors - the fraud is right there in your face. It's easy to ignore when he gets your emotions into a focused fury and that hatred feels so right.

    4. I feel like she made a gross generalization about conservatives. My family is about as divided on the issues as it can be. When President Obama and President elect Donald trump were announced there was disappointment from different members. Not one of my conservative relatives ever said anything degrading or hateful about President Obama, and in fact they did "get over it". Unfortunately I have not seen the same from my family on the left this time. I know its not all left leaning people acting this way, just as not all right leaning conservatives were rude and obscene when President Obama was elected. It's all perspective. When the loudest voices speak they can drown out the voices of many. I do not like trump and I am disappointed, but knew I wouldn't like the outcome of this election unless there was some sort of third party miracle.

Ive seen the 100 day plan and some of the potential advisors and I'm not thrilled about that either. Remeber our system is a three branch system for a reason, the presidental office is not a dictatorship. So let's all try to take a deep breath and see where things go.

Ive seen a lot of kindness and compassion as well over the last two weeks. Let's try to focus on that ans not so much of the hate. After all, paraphrasing the great MLK hate cannot stamp out hate, only love can do that, and darkness cannot stamp out darkness, only light can do that.

    5. This isn't about a difference of political views; this is about the loss of decency, kindness, and inclusion that people have been fighting for for generations. The big difference between this election and Obama's election is that when Obama was elected there was a smart man with some experience and good intentions going into the White House. With this election we have a man with no experience,no knowledge of the issues he is expected to deal with (issues that affect all of us), and, from every indication, intentions to do only whatever he wants to do whenever he wants to do it, regardless of who it hurts or benefits. Comparing the two situations isn't really appropriate, imo. It's why I can't bring myself to "get iver it."

    6. "Remeber our system is a three branch system for a reason, the presidental office is not a dictatorship. So let's all try to take a deep breath and see where things go. "
The problem with this statement is that the Republicans now control all branches of the government. ALL of them. There are no checks and balances with this administration.

    7. Mark, exactly what I was thinking. I notice that she didn't bother to respond to your comment.

Tami, Obama had ZERO experience and he isn't a lick smarter than anyone else in DC. For you to say "Comparing the two situations isn't really appropriate" is just as you called it, your opinion, and not a very well reasoned opinion at that.

Jude, I voted for Obama and when he took office in 2009 he also had the same control of all branches of government. To think that either the R's or the Dems are monolithic, single minded parties is silly and preposterous.

Bush (W) had that same scenario in 2001 and it wasn't a rubber stamp machine, same went for Obama and he couldn't even get single payer national health care passed. He had to settle for ObamaCare, which is a disaster for most people.

    8. Although her point was well taken, there has never been a need for public monies to console the people who are "distressed." There was no need for therapy dogs, encounter groups, and the general whining from people like there has been in this election. On the flip side; the absolute intolerance of the right to be gracious winners is deplorable. We are not a nation of extreme left and right (which seems like those are the ones that make the most noise), most of the people are in the center. There are things on both sides that can benefit everyone but we are stuck with kids distraught in the streets and bigots. The extremes on both sides.

  17. From day one of Obama's presidency, Republicans were told very loudly to "get over it" despite their serious misgivings. They felt like their way of life and values were in jeopardy just like the left is feeling now. Both sides' concerns are legitimate. That's what you get when you have two very polarized parties like we have now. Some of the Republicans acted out of that fear and became very disrespectful because they felt like they weren't represented or protected by Obama. The left is doing that now. Now people opposed to Trump are acting shamefully and rioting in the streets because of fear. You say you have 2,000+ days to do what you wish. Please don't try to be like the worst of the Republicans were under Obama. Please try to be better. Lowering yourself to the least common denominator in a "but they did it" mindset is behavior only worthy of children.

    3. I wasn't taking sides, merely observing. If you'd read with a modicum of temperance, you'd have seen that. 8 years ago, conservatives were told the very same things liberals are being told now. It's a fact. Dig up some old social media comments if you care to verify that. Conservatives are being the very same jerks now to liberals and minorities who have very real fears and concerns of a Trump administration. No one can look beyond the end of their own nose, and our extremist political climate is going to be our country's undoing sooner or later.

@Unknown, you are one of the people looking at your own nose and not a complete story. Age doesn't account for everything. In fact, it often serves to just make us more stubborn. Just in case you're interested, I am 28, well educated, and gainfully employed since 16. I ascribe to no party, but take each election as it comes. Please do not attempt to patronize someone you don't even know; it's demeaning.

@Kayla, the stripping down of our military, being forced to participate in practices which violate religious belief, and a hastily penned and botched healthcare plan which is bleeding many people dry to name a few. Obama's aims may have been acceptable, but he did hurt people by not listening to them and using his pen too much and too quickly.

      Delete
    4. You may drop the attempt to compare Obama and Trump, because there is no comparison. At no point did Obama preach hate, threaten an entire religion, both legally and physically, threaten an opponent with legal action, associate himself with fringe groups, make racially charged remarks against other groups, lie 98% of the time, have illegal activities attributed to him, have his Foundation shut down by the State, have to settle a fraud lawsuit for $25 million, have 12 women come forward claiming sexual assault, ...need I go on? So don't tell anyone to "get over it", "calm down", or we're acting like children. The only child around here is the one whining about his "nasty" impression on SNL rather than addressing the white supremacists he's picking for his cabinet.

      1. At no point did I ever compare Obama and Trump, only the reactions to their elections.
      2. I never defended or supported Trump. I think the things he has said and done are reprehensible.
      3. I have never told anyone in this situation to "get over it". In fact, that's what I was fighting against: people not listening to each other and telling the other side to sit down and shut up.
      4. The only person I called childish was the author of this article with her specific, spiteful, revenge-filled attitude that is not going to help the next 4-8 years go any better. Attitudes like that are toxic and do nothing to actually fix the problem.

    6. Allyssa, I have a different memory of reactions after President Obama was elected. You say you are 28? So you were 20 years old when he was elected. I think where all of the fear and anger are coming from is that a lot of us remember the GW Bush years when we were told that it was unpatriotic to disagree with or disparage the President in any way. This was while we knew that thousands of our young men were dying for a war based on a LIE. Donald Trump scares the bejesus out of a lot of us. Sure, we're too old to have to fight in a war, but we can see that with his policies and thin skin that it's just a matter of time. These closet racists and white supremacists are so tough and brave with their mouths, I really hope he sends them to fight Isis. It doesn't work that way though. Melissa is just saying what a lot of us are feeling. I'd like to add something not yet discussed if I may. I hope that we are not done contesting this election. It seems to me that ALL of the polls couldn't have been that wrong. Also, when the Trump campaign said that there were a lot of "closet" supporters, I'm just not buying it. They sure aren't shy now are they? I think the possibility of machines being hacked is very real. When we remember what happened during the Bush years, don't we owe it to our children to find out for sure if his win is legitimate?

I was not stupid enough to vote for Him twice. I voted for Trump & we are blessed & lucky she didn't win

  31. Your hatred and vile are in the minority, thank god, as expressed in the popular vote which does speak volumes. I'm appalled that a degenerate man (as evidenced by his own public behavior over the last year) could take over the government by being voted for by a certain element of society. If things were so bad in the middle states, why didn't you elect better representatives, not just screw the nation. You cut off your nose to spite OUR face. Learn how government works, not just react to being slighted by thumbing your nose at the rest of society. Get out and elect representatives and senators that reflect your views. Most of your governors are republicans you know and what are they doing for you? And for God's sake, read more varied news because you are being LIED to as reported by most news outlets other than Fox. Didn't the Roger Ailes fiasco teach you anything about the differences between reality and perception.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I only hope we never get over it, never stop speaking out and never again trust that republicans know what they are doing. The animosity and vile I've heard during this election certainly does not bode well for our nation, nor for those who cry out,"we elected Trump, Trump is our nominee." I am especially appalled at the republican congressional leaders who are now tripping over themselves to align with him. For me, this smacks of opportunism at the highest levels. Mr. Trump has not changed by being elected electorially. Yet you now back him like white on rice. Good lord, talk about duplicity.

  35. ha. the misinformation here is mind boggling. who is taking away guns? hunters don't need machine guns and they don't mind not being able to buy AK-47s. White supremacists with paranoia, I'm sure they agree with you. The only racial tension increasing under Obama were from Congressional Republicans refusing to recognize his authority even though he was clearly, unambiguously voted in by we the people.

And by the way, you must not have ever been to Europe. You can drive from Italy, to Austria, to Belgium, to France and through the Chunnel to England--all without any "border crossing guards". Sitting at home listening to faux news is not education.

    ReplyDelete
  36. A very good rant! Thank you for saying what needed to be said.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Let's clarify a couple things.

#1 His birth certificate didn't list his race: it gives his mother's race as Caucasian and his father's race as African-- because his father was born in Africa. It does not use the term African American anywhere in the birth certificate.

#2 After the 1996 buyback in Australia, there was a significant decrease in shootings, especially mass shootings and the NFA was considered a success. I'm not saying it would work as well here in the US, but you can't accurately cite that as a failure.

#3 Obama is very well respected by the majority of world leaders-- not something that can be said about Trump. How many international news sources do you regularly read that give you a sense of when "the world is laughing at us"?

#4 How, exactly, do you know Obama is Muslim? I know lots of people who are not the same faith as one or both of their parents. And even if he was Muslim, his religion shouldn't matter. Your xenophobia is staggering, as demonstrated in several of your paragraphs.

I know better than to try to change any of your opinions; those are yours and, despite how strongly I disagree with them, you have every right to them. However, I can tell you to work on your facts. Snopes is your friend. Do some research with sources that aren't quite so right-wing biased. Having that many inaccuracies in your statement weakens your argument to the point that no one will take you seriously.

  38. Krissepulveda, you poor thing. You have been totally brainwashed by FOX news and misinformation read on questionable websites. As Kay Francis noted, the inaccuracies of your response are numerous. One that caught my eye was whether African Americans were referred to as "Negro" on birth certificates in 1961. If you would actually care to look at a copy of President Obama's birth certificate (here's a link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/birthcertificate.asp you will see that there is no note about the baby's race. The race of the father is shown as "African" and the mother "Caucasian". I won't go into the rest of the 'facts' you presented as it would take much too long. In any case, if you are indeed in law enforcement most departments offer funding for education. You might consider something in political science or the humanities. Better yet, a course in European history between WWI and WWII. Best of luck in your job. If you are a police officer, thank you for your service. If you are a security guard, I hope that you remember your vote when your salary stays at $8 an hour for the next four years. I also hope that your company has health benefits and a retirement plan, because you won't be getting much of either under Republican rule.

  44. I am most frustrated by the people that want to preach compromise and unity. How can you compromise with someone that doesn't fully view you as a person. How can you compromise when what you want is equal rights? Anything less is still inherently unequal. How can you compromise and unify when one side won't acknowledge facts. If one side is spouting conspiracy how can you meet in the middle, you can't even agree on facts. You aren't on the same page, your not in the same book.
They had the fear of guns being taken away, we fear internment camps, marriages no longer being valid, programs we require to survive being taken away, our environment being irreparably damaged, we fear hate crimes over our identity, we fear registration. How can we compromise when have all of these very real fears.
I'm also frustrated by the people saying "don't protest, but we'll stand with you if... happens" the problem is no you won't. You won't stand with us, because you already didn't. You're watching now as white nationalist get positions in the white house, as those surrounding the President-elect talk about internment camps setting a precedent. It's frustrating to hear wait and see while we are already seeing. The protests may not change the result but at least it's a very clear showing of a lot of us are not ok with this.
I lived through the Bush years where I was told it was unpatriotic to say anything bad about the President, where I was told if I didn't like it to get out. I lived through Obama where it was the hot new trend to hate the President. Where actively working against him was some patriotic stand. Now it's circling back around to the unconditional support or get out. Rather than quietly shaking our heads, we're being heard. We will not be shouted down this time. We want the advancements on equality, not a stall, not a backpedal.

  57. You all need to learn how to fact check, as the stats in this article are COMPLETELY SKEWED. The unemployment rate as stated is just 1 example. In this particular statistic, it no longer takes into "chronically" unemployed people who have "given up on looking for work". If you were to add these people back in to the calculation as they have always been before President Obama, the unemployment rate would almost TRIPLE.

  60. Thank you Melissa for having the energy as well as intellect and factual accuracy to write and post an excellent piece on how true democracy allows us to feel pain and share it, on social media and in peaceful protest, as well as in written and other proactive forms of legitimate protest against the danger that is a president-elect advised by an alt-right racist misogynist pig. Thank you also to my daughter-in-law Megan and my friend Robin, two very intelligent, articulate, and loving women who shared this piece on Facebook. The few very negative comments, filled with lies and glaring inaccuracies, reflect those who were tapped to vote for an entire horde of deplorables from Bannon to Kushner to Flynn to Trump and his dynasty of "All for me" characters. Mr. Orange- head is not a limited problem for our democracy, as he is surrounding himself with characters who want to take down public education as well as viable, affordable healthcare and unions; destroy our credibility amongst our allies, who FYI, love President Obama far more than an American majority who have again given him an enormous popularity percentage. Even many Americans who wanted a more progressive democracy during this election season love him and his family for the people they are...beautiful, healthy, intelligent, well-spoken, caring, and fun. The others, largely "educated" by falsehoods perpetrated on Fox "news", owned by an Australian billionaire, or by radio demagogues like Rush or Savage, will not ever learn history, civics, or current events that are factually based. They prefer receiving easy affirmations of their preconceived prejudices. Therefore, those of us who question not only the Right but also the Left, issue by issue, owe ourselves and all who live and may live on this Planet Earth our vigilance, our tenacity, our intellect, our questioning, our teaching, our writing, our voting, and our peaceful but forceful protests.

  72. I think you have just a few things wrong. The first and foremost is in being presumptuous enough to make ANY statement as to what I have done in tha last 8 years. None of them are included on your list. What I did do, along with many of my colleagues in the health care profession was have my job eliminated as a result of Obama care. There were more than 2500 employees at the facility where I had been employed for nearly 20 years as a registered nurse who also lost their jobs. Also, I lost a HUGE amount of tax allowances for my son as a college student and dependent compared to what was previously the case with my daughters. As a single mother completely responsible for supporting my children without assistance from ANY government agency, I lost quite a bit over the last 8 years. I can also say with complete certainty that not once, not EVER have I taken to the streets in protest, missed any work due to being so distraught by either of the two elections, nor burned the American flag that many in my family have died while serving under. So please do NOT speak for me nor tell me what I have done, you obviously have no idea regarding my actions, which also leads one to believe you quite possibly speak on most topics of which you have little to no knowledge.

  73. You are an example of one of the things wrong with this country right now. You have been brain washed for years by some false news media. They repeat lies over and over, and that tact has proven to actually work on the masses, so they repeat it. Amazing. Americans are unaware that they are being used by the media. Sad thing is, it is so engrained now that the lies are actually believed now and thought to be truths. No amount of support or facts will alter their thoughts now. So sad. We have become a land of the misinformed. There is so much info out there, hard to know who to trust. People tend to just focus on the sites that reinforce what they already believe. Very unfortunate that Kris has been duped all these years.

He has already backtracked on so many of his promises - put Hilary in jail, he won't be repealing Obamacare, won't be putting 45% tariff on Chinese goods, the 'really great wall' may now be a fence, if it happens at all, and he has stacked his transition team with the exact type of people he said had no p-lace i9n politics - mainly lobbyists (drain the Swamp' sound familiar? Then to top it all off, the lower income bracket will lose overtime penalties, the rich will get a tax reduction and because he won't live in the White house, its going to cost an extra $1.2b per year in security. Also he refuses to release his tax returns to show conflicts of interest, refuses to step down from running his businesses, installs his kids into the management of Trump enterprises and then puts them on his transition team. What the hell am I missing here???? I would be really pissed if I voted for him based on his campaign promises.

I'm not sure where you got your information about Australia, but you might want to check out the actual statistics from the Australian Institute of Criminology (Australia's national research and knowledge center on crime and justice). Just by looking at the stats for homicide alone you will see that "the percentage of homicides committed with a firearm continued a declining trend which began in 1969. In 2003, fewer than 16% of homicides involved firearms. The figure was similar in 2002 and 2001, down from a high of 44% in 1968." You can read about this, and more about violent crime in Australia, on their website: http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide.html

I never spent one moment questioning his place of birth.
I defend the First Amendment (and all other) Rights of all US citizens equally. (and, BTW, there is a difference between legitimate protest and violent civil disorder - you might want to learn that)
If I referred to him as a community organizer it is simply because that is what he was.
Christians are supposed to be identifiable by their words and deeds. Calling yourself a Christian because you occasionally go to church is as valid as calling yourself a Buick because you occasionally enter your garage.
I don't expect Obama, Trump, or any other POTUS to successfully mandate a gun ban. I think it is logistically impossible -- however it is certainly not without precedent (think Lexington/Concord)
I have never said a word about Mrs. Obama or those lovely young women they are raising.

My dislike and distrust of Mr. Obama has its roots in his political ideology, his vision for a weakened USA and his arrogance. It has nothing to do with his race.

I was given no worthy choice for POTUS in this latest election. I personally believe that neither Clinton nor Trump is worthy of the office and that neither sought it for reasons I can endorse. That being said, I am convinced that Hillary Clinton posed a much greater threat to the continued existence of this republic and could not ever vote for her. Those of us who can see her for the corrupt, evil, self-serving plutocrat she is were left with Hobson's choice.

I voted for a platform. A platform that more closely reflects my core values, ethics and morality. I do not believe in unrestricted abortion on demand through full term - that is infanticide and those who believe it is a woman's right are promulgating an evil. Should abortion be legal? Moot point it is - but to channel Bill Clinton, I believe it should be legal and rare. To kill an infant in utero for the convenience of the mother is sickening.

I believe in a sovereign USA that has the right, duty and obligation to protect its borders and defend its way of life.

I believe that all immigration must be done legally and controlled carefully.

I believe that radical Islam is an existential threat to this country and the world.

I believe that Mr. Obama has intentionally and for ideological reasons deepened the racial divisions in this nation, massively increased the national debt, caused more people than ever to be dependent upon government assistance and that he is in a large sense responsible for the war on police.

Bottom line lady: We have survived 44 presidents and we'll survive #45. I am not suggesting you get over IT. I am suggesting you get over yourself.

Other than the rant on abortion, I'm with you all the way down the line. Well said.

  92. We're exploring new political territory, normally hidden from view by trivialities like the Constitution, ethical decision-making and fairness. "Give him a chance!" As if words don't matter. The words are frightening enough. He'll have chance after chance to climb out of the hole that he and his, handlers, advisors and cabinet members have been busy digging since he descended his golden elevator. (I wonder if his crown is finished, sized and sent to Justice Roberts yet.)

  93. Things are not all roses here in Australia either, but I feel so sorry for the people of America, and of the rest of the world. Like you I am so scared of what this man, who has not one iota of integrity or compassion, is going to do. My heart goes out to you.

  94. This is a fantastic post, however I disagree with you on one major point. You said you were going to keep protesting trump for the same amount of time as President Barack Obama was in office. I surely hope you just had a slip of the tongue...........err finger. If you had to do that it would mean trump would have to be reelected and I know about 64 million plus who would be very upset including ME,LOL!!!!!
